Dear MS 118 Families-
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. We are approximately half-way through the 4th marking period. Please monitor your child’s Pupil Path account for the latest information about their academic progress, including assignments that are complete and incomplete. Teachers will continue to accept late work throughout the marking period to best meet the needs of families and students during remote learning.
The Department of Education has announced plans for remote learning summer school. For middle school students who are required or recommended to attend summer school, the program will run from Monday, July 6 – Tuesday, August 11. Classes will take place Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. We will reach out to the families of 6th and 7th grade students who haven’t mastered the grade-level math and ELA standards with invitations. Remote learning summer school will be an opportunity for those students to prepare for the next grade; we urge families to ensure their child participates if invited.
MS 118 has a new Instagram account and re-designed website. Please follow us at @118Bronx and www.ms118.info. We will use these communications channels to keep MS 118 families up-to-date on school news and events during remote learning, throughout the summer and when school starts again in the fall.
The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced additional food assistance to help New Yorkers with children who previously received free and reduced-price meals at school. The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program will provide eligible households with a total of about $420 per child. More information is available here. On Wednesday, May 27th from 4:30-6:00 PM, Community Food Advocates will host a webinar on the rollout of the Pandemic EBT plan in NYC, including how and when the benefits will be distributed and who to contact if problems arise. The webinar is open to all parents of NYC public school students as well as school staff and administrators. Click here to register.
Healthier students are better learners! The DOE’s Wellness Wednesdays help students and families learn skills and habits that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Visit this link for healthy activities for your family. This week’s theme was Nutrition and Food Security During Insecure Times. (The theme and activities change every Wednesday.)
Looking for tutoring services for your child during remote learning? EduMate NYC was founded by a team of college students who are all proud graduates of NYC public schools to help with virtual tutoring while schools are closed. Visit here to learn more.
7th Grade Families: Members of the MS 118 staff will be reaching out to 7th grade families to help create NYC Schools Accounts. Families will need a NYC Schools Account to participate in virtual high school articulation meetings that will happen in June.
8th Grade Families: The MS 118 staff are working hard to create a special virtual event for the MS 118 Class of 2020 on Wednesday, June 24, at 11 am. Please stay tuned for more information, including how to participate in the event.
For help with your PupilPath, NYC Schools Account or any other questions, please contact Wanda Montanez, parent coordinator, at 917.826.4222 or email@example.com.
