The mass shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas reminds us that there are individuals in our country who choose hate over compassion and love. We have empathy for those families who experienced the devastating loss of loved ones.
On behalf of our J.H.S. 118 teachers and staff, I want to thank all families for their continued support over the past few years. It is important for us (teachers and staff) to work in partnership with you (families) in the interest of all J.H.S. 118 students. As we end the year, there are a number of activities that have been planned to recognize the many students who have made positive contributions to our school community. We also want to acknowledge those students who have demonstrated continuous improvement since the school year began in September.
On Monday, March 28th, we will recognize students whose first semester academic achievement earned them a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll. Students on the Principal’s Honor Roll have earned a cumulative average of 90%. These students did not receive a grade below 90% in a course for the first semester. I welcome families to attend this event with their child.
I am pleased to share that face coverings will be optional for students beginning Monday, March 7th. To maintain the safety of staff and students, we will continue to practice strict COVID-19 protocols, including increased ventilation, daily health screening, and test kit distribution. Wearing a face covering will become optional indoors, outside, and on school buses. Anyone who chooses to wear a mask may continue to do so, and your child may request a mask at morning entry if they need one.
We are closing out the second week of school and are really excited about having all of our Academy of Excellence, Spectrum Academy, and Pace Academy students in the building. It has been an easy transition for most students and staff members. We are confident that this school year will progress without interruption.
